Fantastic Sports Spectacle

The MN Lynx beat the San Antonio Silver Stars 61-60 in game 1 of the WNBA divisional semi-finals. It was a white-knuckle, fingernail-chewing game, hotly contested right down to the wire. The crowd was the biggest ever in Minnesota for a WNBA game, completely filling the lower bowl of the Target Center. It was the best sports spectacle I've seen in Minneapolis since the Twins playoff games in 1991. There have probably been other similarly great sports events here since, but not that I've seen, and certainly not for $10 a ticket. I'm recommending the WNBA to everyone. The players can hit free throws, they pass and run actual plays, they play defense, the refs call traveling and other actual basketball rules; it's a great game. And the atmosphere is actually family-friendly and not a tourist trap to separate fools from their money. My wife and I went with our 11 year-old daughter and spent around $100 total, on light-rail transportation, tickets, and refreshments. No drunken brawling or obscenity-spewing bullies like at Vikings games. Prices far more reasonable than Twins games. A competitive team unlike Timberwolves games. Just a real, high-quality athletic event that's family friendly and priced right. Go Lynx!

great game, seats uncomfortable

the women played well, crowd was pretty good. I had second row seats that are actually like metal bleacher seats, but they are smaller than the regular seats and it was really uncomfortable that even normal sized people overlapped onto neighbors space. I think there were alot of "new" fans which made it uncomfortable for me to cheer when all around were sitting pretty quietly. Target staff showed two really offending commercials, one with Prowl kicking cowboy in the groin, and another making fun of a extreme season ticket holder. This after they announced "lets beat the Storm" when we were playing the Silver stars.

Lynx won a big match!

The game was phenomenal and gave good value for the cost. I'm very glad the Lynx won against the conference leaders. The venue (Target Center) is good. Food, as always, is overpriced at Target Center, and it is extremely annoying that they don't let you keep the bottle caps if you buy sodas or water in bottles. With all the traffic to and from seats, it's easy to spill stuff all over (but I guess the idea is that then you will just buy more). While I understand their wanting to sell more, I hate that aspect of going, especially since you can't bring in water bottles of your own.
